Feelings are like waves

Feelings are like waves…

We can’t stop them from coming, but we can choose which ones to surf.

We are all cyclic, most people say there are 4 seasons in a year, but in reality there is much more than that. A book I am currently reading “Women who run with the wolves”· by Clarissa Pinkola Estes got my attention with the seasons.

Let’s just look at winter for example, we have rains, sun, snow, shinny snow, dirty snow, the squealing snow, etc.. When we look a bit more within each seasons, we can see that planet earth have more than 4 cycles.

It is the same for us. We often feel that we have a time of childhood, adolescence, adulthood and late adulthood, but looking a bit more in-depth, we can see that in each of these periods, there are many things happening.

Understanding that we are cyclic, is a good way of accepting the fact that our emotions are like waves in an ocean.

Imagine that you are navigating on a beautiful ocean, it is sunny, the ocean is still, no waves at all. Everything is calm you feel secure, and happy (from the surface). The storm starts, the wind rises and you see appears with the movements of the waves the depth of the ocean. The light blue has transformed itself as a darker blurry blue. You feel unstable and scared. After the storm you can observe on the surface of the water the wastes brought from undersea. The sea comes back to calm and the sun is shining. You start collecting whatever has come on the surface. And then you feel lighter. It is the same with our emotions. They are deep within ourselves. When we shake them a little, they come back to the surface asking to be embraced, healed and letted go. Whenever you feel something in the bottom of your heart or that your intuition is telling you “look at this”, don’t ignore it, give it your attention. Even if it's difficult, face it. And you will see how good it feels afterwards.
